Mrs Tanya Horne (she/her)

Tanya spent her 20s working for the Chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party as caseworker and diary secretary. After being introduced to the importance of palliative care through the illness and death of a loved one, she then used the skills she’d honed on the very successful, complete administrative overhaul of a local hospice. The next goal she set her sights on was a BSc in Microbiology at the University of Liverpool; she was first place graduating student in 2020, netting a record 4 graduation awards. She remains at Liverpool studying for her PhD in Molecular Microbiology; the organisational skills whetted during her time working in both Parliament and healthcare has helped her stay on top of the literature and demands of the lab bench, despite the twin challenges of pandemic-induced lockdowns and a cancer diagnosis in 2021.

Dr Modeline Longjohn (she/her)

Modeline Nicholas Longjohn is a Postdoctoral fellow in Bioinformatics at the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She also obtained an MSc in Cancer Biology from Nottingham Trent University, and a BSc (Hons) in Genetics from the University of Liverpool. Modeline’s research interests are extracellular vesicles, liquid biopsy and Multiomics approaches. She combines wet and dry lab approaches for cancer biomarker discovery. Honours include BHCRI CRTP award, and YWCA woman of distinction in science and engineering. Modeline has authored scientific writings, editorial articles, and published works of fiction (under a pseudonym). She is currently working on a soon-to-be-published collection of short stories. Modeline gives back to the community via regular volunteering including as a run organizer for the Terry Fox run in St. John’s, NL, and the Canadian red cross.
